Day 4: Cats in Mittens Catch no Mice
Charles Spurgeon wrote, “While foxes are so common, we must not be geese. To get through this world, a man must look about him, even sleep with one eye open sometimes; for there are many baits for fishes, many nets for birds, and many traps for men.” The truth is even when we are so careful, we sometimes find ourselves in very difficult situations. What’s your natural response when you find yourself in a hot mess? Do you run to the bank for a bailout or immediately turn to your trusted sources for solutions? The righteous men and women of the Bible turned to fasting and prayer to invoke the help of God. The natural and easy thing to do, would have been for Jehosaphat to immediately call on his trusted allies and their armies…but he knew that the best kind of help is that which is sanctioned by heaven. So, he fasted and prayed. The natural thing for us to do is to eat our way through problems as we try every possible solution known to the internet and our peers. God has a better way. The way of fasting and prayer. The essential nature of fasting is putting aside the natural to invoke the supernatural of God. Jehosaphat did that and had a resounding victory. Fasting is humble, practical, and it works! Do your part and God will do His part, remember cats in mittens catch no mice.
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, when I find myself in a bind, forgive me for running to everyone and everything else instead of seeking you first. I humble myself during this Fast and I choose to seek your guidance and wisdom above all. Thank you, Lord, for helping me. Amen
