Unto Us, a Promise is Fulfilled

But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.
— Galatians 4:4-5

For Christians, the observance of Christmas is one of the greatest celebrations of our faith. And as it should be-the entirety of our faith rests upon the fulfillment of God's promises in and through His beloved Son.

We read echoes of the promise of His Son in stories and prophecies pointing to the arrival of Christ strung throughout the Old Testament as early as Genesis 3:15, "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."  In Deuteronomy 18:15, "The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him," and Isaiah 9:6-7, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace -and beyond.”

From the timing of Christ's birth spoken in Daniel 9:24, to the worship by kings and nations in Psalm 72:10-11, Jesus' birth fulfilled a promise God the Father had spoken about throughout the ages.

If we gather to worship and celebrate the promise fulfilled in a virgin birth conceived by the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 7:14), can we have faith to trust God to fulfill the other promises He has breathed throughout Scripture?

How about His promise of peace in Isaiah when He says, "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you," (Isaiah 26:3)? Or His promise to increase the strength of the weary (Isaiah 40:29)? Can you believe that His grace is sufficient for you in this season? And that His power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9)? Do you believe this Christmas that God has plans to give you both hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11)? Do you trust that God is working all things for the good of those who love Him?

What has God promised that you need help believing for? Step into the faith of the Christmas Story. He has, is, and will do everything He has said.

For unto us, a promise is fulfilled. Thank God!

Prayer

Thank You Father for Your grand story woven throughout time. Thank You for the fulfillment in Your son. Thank You for keeping the promises You make. I’m so grateful that Your ways and thoughts are beyond mine! I confess that I am doubtful that You will fulfill every single promise You make to me in scripture. Search my heart, and forgive any way in me that is doubtful of Your promises. Highlight to me in Your word a promise I am hesitant to believe in this season. Help me to remember the story of Your son, and let the miraculous Christmas story continuously minister to my heart that You are the ultimate promise keeper. Amen.
